CEonCD for
Nurse Practitioners
Improving Functional Outcomes in Persistent Pain
CE Credits are FREE
to members of the American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners and qualified recipients of CEonCD
or CE-TODAY
for Nurse Practitioners.
As the most common cause of long-term
disability, chronic pain is a problem that will plague
almost one-third of all Americans at some point in their
lives. Improved understanding of pain and increasingly
effective medications should enable effective pain management;
yet recent studies suggest that many types of pain remain
undertreated.
The courses on this interactive CEonCD
discuss current pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic trends
in pain management including a particular focus on musculoskeletal
pain and the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
(NSAIDs).
A clinical discussion with Gregory B. Holm, PhD, ARNP-C Hosted by Frances M. Sahebzamani, PhD, ARNP
(Course ID: AB0327)
Dr. Gregory B. Holm from
the University of South Florida in Tampa talks
with CE-TODAY about treating the pain syndromes
most commonly seen in the primary care setting,
offers insight into pain pathways, and emphasizes
the importance of a thorough pain assessment.
By Allison R. Edmonds, MS, APRN-BC
and Gregory B. Holm, PhD, ARNP-C
(Course ID: AB0329)
Undertreated pain can impair an
individuals ability to carry out daily activities
and diminish quality of life. This interactive
course provides an update on the current understanding
of pain management with a particular focus on
musculoskeletal pain and the use of nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory agents.
Clinical trials have shown that
COX-2 inhibitors are equivalent in efficacy to
nonselective NSAIDs and have a lower incidence
of GI toxicity. This interactive course reviews
the clinical pharmacology of COX-2 inhibitors
and discusses their role in pain management and
in neurodegenerative disease.
By Gregory B. Holm, PhD, ARNP-C
(Course ID: AB0331)
Lower back pain is very common in
developed countries, especially in adults of working
age. This case involves a typical presentation
of a middle-aged woman with no previous history
of back problems, who presents with acute lower
back and right leg pain. The need to monitor and
adapt management
plans to optimize therapeutic outcomes is emphasized
in this self-paced clinical challenge.
