Overview
Musculoskeletal pain is one of the
most common reasons for consultation in primary care. Although complaints
about pain may be self-limiting, the consequences can be serious
when the pain becomes chronic and patients become disabled. Nurse
practitioners and other primary care professionals play an important
role in the treatment of patients in pain by providing relief early
before pain becomes chronic, giving advice on preventing recurrence
when it applies, and providing reassurance and acting as a coach
for patients who might be fearful about pain and their future. In
this interactive Web Workshop, Wendy L. Wright, MS, APRN, BC,
ANP, FNP, discusses physiological, pharmacological, and psychological
aspects of pain control and provides tips for improving the quality
of life for patients with musculoskeletal pain.
