Overview

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects about 30 million Americans and is the 4th leading cause of death in the United States. Smoking is an integral part of the diagnosis of COPD. Smoking cessation should be the primary treatment strategy, followed by symptom management. In this Web Workshop, Deborah M. Judd, MSN, RN-C, FNP, discusses effective strategies for helping patients to work through the process of smoking cessation.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • List the complications associated with smoking
  • Describe effective strategies to be used in creating an individualized smoking cessation program
  • List medicinal products that can help patients deal with the withdrawal symptoms associated with smoking cessation
